Today is World Mental Health Day 2025!

This year’s theme is ‘Access’, because early identification and support is not just important, it’s essential.

Looking after our mental health isn’t just about today; it’s about everyday mental maintenance. We regularly service our cars — so let’s do the same for our mental health.

We have lots of avenues for support (see below!) but, first and foremost never underestimate the power of a good chat and a cuppa! Sometimes a simple, compassionate conversation can make all the difference. So pop the kettle on, and get comfy.

Need more than a chat with a mate? Well, fair enough. We all feel a bit messy at times. …here’s how to reach out:

For Children and Families

However big or small the worry, there’s always someone to listen and help.

Here’s where to start:

  • Just need a chat? - Sometimes a simple conversation makes all the difference. Speak to your child’s class teacher or a member of the pastoral team — they’re here to listen, support, and help things feel a little lighter.
  • Need a bit more than a chat? - Your school’s Mental Health Champion (MHC) or Mental Health Lead (MHL) can offer guidance and signpost you to the right kind of help. They work closely with pastoral staff and family workers to make sure support fits your child’s needs.
  • Need more help? - Our MHLs work with external agencies to ensure that children, young people, and families can access professional mental health support quickly and safely.

For Staff

  • Feeling a bit messy? - Pop in for a chat with a colleague — we have an open-door culture for a reason. Sometimes a quick check-in is all it takes.
  • Feeling messier than that? - Speak to one of our Mental Health Champions (MHCs). They’re trained to listen, guide, and signpost you to the right kind of help.
  • Feeling even messier than that?- That’s what SAS (https://schooladvice.co.uk/school-wellbeing) is for: confidential, professional support

Looking for information?  - Each school’s website lists up-to-date details on local and national mental health services for children, young people, families, and staff.

Let’s Make Access Easy - Supporting each other starts small. Don’t be afraid to ask, “How are you? I mean, how are you really?” That simple question can open up the kind of conversation that changes a day — or even a week. Wherever you are, there’s always someone ready to listen.  So get the kettle on, and let’s have a natter.
